Job description

Unreal Engineer developer

Location:

Amsterdam - Netherlands

Type:

Fulltime

In today’s world of constant global security challenges, innovation in defense is no luxury. After years of budget cuts, military personnel needs to train and work with inadequate and insufficient equipment. We have an opportunity to change that.

At Intelic, we are a group of highly committed professionals building one of the fastest-growing start-ups based in Amsterdam. We create advanced software for unmanned systems in the defense sector. As a software company at our core, we build intelligence that gives unmanned platforms the speed, coordination and reliability that critical missions demand. Our technology ensures that decisions are made with accuracy when it matters most.

Responsibilities

As an Unreal Engine Developer at Intelic, you will design and build the simulation backbone for Nexus, our mission autonomy platform. Your work will enable testing, training, and validation in realistic digital environments before systems are deployed in the field. You will create high-fidelity, interactive simulations of drones, sensors, and mission scenarios, ensuring that our teams and operators can explore, learn, and validate with confidence.

In practice, this means:

• Developing and maintaining a simulation environment in Unreal Engine that mirrors real-world drone platforms, environments, and mission conditions.

• Implementing physics, flight models, and sensor behavior to ensure accurate and reliable virtual testbeds.

• Collaborating closely with product, autonomy, and UX teams to support discovery and testing of new features in a safe, iterative way.

• Building tooling and interfaces to integrate simulation workflows into Intelic’s software stack and CI/CD pipelines.

• Creating visually clear, immersive, and intuitive scenarios for training, demos, and customer engagement.

• Continuously improving simulation fidelity and performance based on feedback from engineers and defense operators.

What You Will Bring

You are a developer with strong Unreal Engine skills and a passion for building simulation environments that are both technically accurate and visually compelling. You enjoy working at the intersection of graphics, physics, and real-world systems, and you understand how to translate real drone behavior into virtual testbeds. You thrive in cross-functional teams and see simulation as a critical bridge between product discovery, testing, and customer adoption.

This includes:

• Proven experience developing in Unreal Engine (C++ and/or Blueprints) for simulation, training, or gaming environments.

• Familiarity with physics simulation, AI agents, or sensor modeling (e.g. LiDAR, EO/IR cameras, GPS).

• Ability to create performant, optimized environments and assets for real-time simulation.

• Experience integrating Unreal Engine with external APIs, data sources, or control systems.

• A structured, outcome-focused mindset: using simulation to validate assumptions and support product decisions.

• Clear communication skills and comfort working in empowered product teams.

Our Tech Stack

• Core: Unreal Engine 5, C++, Blueprints

• Simulation: Drone models, sensor emulation, mission scenarios

• Integration: ROS2, PX4, ArduPilot, external APIs

• Supporting tools: GitHub, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, Figma for collaboration

What Success Looks Like in Your First Year

• You have built a robust simulation environment that allows Intelic to test, validate, and demonstrate Nexus features before field deployment.

• You’ve created realistic drone and mission models that operators and engineers can trust for discovery and training.

• You’ve supported product discovery by enabling rapid iteration on autonomy and UX features through virtual testing.

• You’ve helped Intelic run compelling customer demos and training scenarios using your simulation environments.

• You’ve established simulation as a critical part of Intelic’s product development and delivery pipeline.

Why Join Intelic
